An exhibition of the tarot through the conduit of a mixed race colored woman
As a woman, and especially a mixed race colored woman in the United States, race is a big part of who I am, I am brown with kinky hair and I carry distinct attributes of my ancestors and descendants. In honor of you and them, I share this deck which is an articulation of life as a spiritual journey, a manifestation of spiritual truth as expressed through the archetypes of the tarot.
The process of co-creating Woman of Light Tarot was such a transformative experience and one I could not have imagined from the outset.
In 2020 I underwent major surgery and, while healing, I started collecting oracle and tarot cards. I had about seven or eight decks, including one that had sat dormant in my closet for about twenty years. Since my mobility was limited at that time, I decided to study the tarot. As I studied, I would draw pictures and write keywords to remind myself of what each card meant. Initially, I was not aware that a deck was forming. My drawings were elementary, a cross to represent the hierophant, a sun to represent the sun card, etc, and as I went through the major arcana, I realized that the cards were talking about basic energy and it related to a training I had done of the Five Buddha Families years prior. This ended up being the beginning of a deck and the drawings moved from paper to an electronic tablet.
The thing that struck me most through the process is that, while I might be able to claim that the study was of me, the cards manifested through me. It was as if they were creating themselves using me as their vehicle. I often think of myself as the co-creator rather than the creator because, in many ways, the cards created themselves.
I am a woman:
an organic colored woman, a mixed race woman, a daughter, a granddaughter, a niece, a sister, a cousin, an aunt, a mother, and a grandmother. I am also a psychotherapist and an anthropologist. I hold a PhD in Anthropology and Social Change as well as a graduate degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy. I share this because each of these things defines me a little more, they tell a story about my history and the path I've taken.
These are indie cards that were developed through me, currently in process are two decks, Woman of Light: The Elder, and Woman of Light Oracle. There is no release date for these as they are still in the design phase.
If, for any reason, you are unhappy with the deck, please contact me for a return.
